Fuck Yeah, Art History!

Le Jour des Rameaux (Palm Sunday), Victorine Meurent, 1880s?, oil on canvas, Municipal Museum of Art and History, Colombes, France
You probably have not heard of Victorine Meurent. If you have, you probably have only heard that she modeled for Manet, and appears in such works as ‘Olympia’ and ‘Dejeuner sur l’Herbe’. On the off chance you know anything else about her, you likely also know that she was an artist, showed her work many times at Salon exhibitions, was a lesbian, and that ‘Le Jour des Rameaux’ is her only known surviving work. But our culture does not value women, and we have seen fit to retain only one of her works, and value it at $5000.
